Eat & Drink: Tim Ho Wan @ Toa Payoh

I like to eat tim sum, but every time when I walk pass THW at Plaza Singapura, seeing the long queue, I always change my mind and went somewhere else.

Recently, THW opened another outlet in the busy neighbourhood, Toa Payoh, bringing the Michelin Star tim sum, closer to us.

I had dine at THW in Hong Kong before, but not in Singapore. So when hubby suggested going to THW Toa Payoh, I said yes.

We reach at about 2:15pm. There were about 15 people in front of us. I though that we could get a table easily at that time, but still gotta wait. We were given an order chit to pre-order while waiting for the table.

That's me, taking my selfie, since I got nothing to do. Hungry, hoping that it's my turn soon.

Finally, after almost 30 minutes, we were seated. The restaurant is small, and we were seated at the last table, at the end of the restaurant.

Everything looks good and we choose 8 dishes.

马来糕 Steam Egg Cake $3.80

The texture is soft and fluffy, but a bit too sweet. Recommended if you got a sweet tooth.

虾饺 Prawn Dumpling $5.50

The dumplings are stuffed with succulent prawns, wrapped with the thin skin. They are very generous with the prawns too. I don't know it is just hubby and me but we felt thirsty after eating this, wondering if they had added too much MSG (味精)in it.

免治牛肉肠粉 Beef Vermicelli Roll $5.50

I've tried vermicelli roll with pork and prawn before, and I'm super excited to try this with beef. The vermicelli skin is soft and springy. The minced beef stuffing is generous too. I like the taste of the beef. There is a hint of lemon taste in the beef, does feel weird when I first eat it. But after a while, I can't stop eating. The sauce is also not too salty, balance up the lemon taste.

叉烧包
Baked Buns with BBQ Pork
$4.50

This is a must try. It is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The crispy layer outside is sweet and balance well with the BBQ pork filling. I think it taste better that what I had in Hong Kong.

鲜虾腐皮卷 Deep Fried Beancurd Skin with Prawn $5.59

The prawns are fresh and you can feel the crunchiness in every bite.

咸水饺
Deep Fried Dumpling with Salted Meat
$3.80

I love the chewy skin, just like mua ji, very springy. The meat filling is marinated with five spice. I don't like the filling but you can try as not many places are selling this item.

糯米鸡
Glutinous Rice Dumpling
$5.00

We waited almost 45 minutes before this is served. The taste is okay, but the meat is super soft. Nothing remarkable, just like the ones you can find at other tim sum restaurant.

萝卜糕 Carrot Cake $

I almost wanted to cancel this dish, but luckily I didn't. This dish is totally different from what we find at other tim sum restaurant. The carrot cake is very soft and breaks easily. But I like that you could see and taste the crunch of the raddish strips in the cake.

Comparing to what I had in Hong Kong, each has their own pros, but I'm glad that we can easily access to a 1 Michellin Star tim sum in Our sunny island. Price is abit on the high side, but still acceptable. Service is so so, don't expect too much on that.

Another thing to note. They don't do takeaways. If you want takeaway, get a table, sit down, order, pack your own food at the table, and pay for service charge.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the food and will definitely be back for more, provided the queuing line is not too long.

It's been a long time since Mr Wonderful and I have a date. Glad to spend some private time together for dinner without Baby Joy! It was a surprise dinner date (3 weeks ago) as he just SMS me the venue 5 minutes before I off work.  When I reach the restaurant, there was a big crowd outside, waiting for tables. Mr Wonderful got 2 seats at the Sushi Counter which is our favorite whenever we dine at a  Japanese Restaurant.   There's a welcome drink for everybody. Never got to know what drink is that as the servers are always busy. We had a hard time trying to get their attention as everyone is attending to tables. There were a lot of table services such as tossing salad and cooking Sukiyaki by the table side.   My welcome drink   Quite nice, a little minty. The chilli padi looks scary, but you don't taste that at all... Wagyu Toro Sushi $7.90 I am not a fan of raw beef, so I've got nothing much to saw about this. But the beef literally 'melts' in my mouth, so make

Bye, 2013... Hello, 2014.... & Mini Giveaway

After all the celebration and parties to celebrate Christmas, so 2013 is coming to an end. Looking back into 2013, I've got a fair share of the good and bad...  Now that 2014 is arriving, it's time to plan for the future.... Yes! I plan that in 2013, but things are not going smoothly for me then.  But I'm gonna do that again in 2014, and the first thing I'm gonna do is.... To be pregnant again... Yes, that's my number one plan for 2014. I'm not young anymore, and I really do look forward to have a child of my own. I lost my child in 2013, and I'm not gonna let that happen again this time. I'm gonna take good care of myself this time and give birth to a healthy baby. Secondly, Mr Wonderful and I had gave up choosing a bto unit this year. It is because they are left with only second storey units, while we prefer a higher storey one. Hopefully, this year, we are able to to book a unit. Next, I hope I can have more time
