Taiwan Holiday - Day 1 @ 嘉义/奋起湖 27022014

Sorry for taking so long to post this. I'm so busy with my work after the holidays. And there's so many photos to upload too.

Anyway, I'm not gonna say much in this post. Check out the photos instead of reading the boring words....

So here's my Day 1 Itinerary

SIN - Tao Yuan International Airport (桃园国际机场)
Taoyuan International Airport (机场) - Taoyuan HSR (桃园快铁) - Chiayi HSR (嘉义快铁)
Chiayi HSR (嘉义快铁)- Shi Zhuo (石卓)
Shi Zhuo (石卓)- Fen Qi Hu (奋起湖)
Fen Qi Hu (奋起湖)- Alishan YunMinGi (阿里山淵明局)

Arriving at Tao Yuan International Airport at about 6am in the morning.

On our way to the immigration.

Collecting our luggage. As soon as we walk out the 1st place we go to is the convenience store as I need a coffee to start mt day.

Here's my latte to start the day...

Tickets for the coach from the airport to Tao Yuan HSR

This is the coach. The ride is fast and smooth.

Arriving at Tao Yuan HSR.

We had book our tickets before our trip. It's cheaper to book it online as there will be early bird discounts if you book early. We save about 20% of the original fare price.

Collection is a breeze, and here's our ticket.... So we are going to Chiayi, Shi Zhuo.

Went around taking some random photos while waiting to board the HSR.

You can also buy tickets directly at the ticket machines too. Very user friendly....

That's my first photo of the day....

Here comes the HSR....

Good Morning!!

Seats are spacious. Oh, you can actually buy food and eat it on the train.

Some random photos again during the ride.

Nice views, isn't it?

Arriving at Xin Zhu, but that's not our destination.

Finally, after 1 hour, we arrived at Chiayi. The ride is fast and comfortable.

More random photos....

The bus station is located right inform of the HSR entrance.

This is the bus we're gonna take. There are lots of Beibei around who are offering rides up to Alishan. From what I heard from the conversation was that they charge the same price as the public buses and they will just drive directly to Alishan, or any hotels and B&B in that area.
As I have already arrange with the B&B Owner to pick me up so We took the public bus up to Shi Zhuo ourselves.

Just 6 stops away, but it's actually an hours ride....

This is the bus we are boarding....

Again it's scenery photo taking time.....

Do you dare to live in a house like that?

We are going higher up the mountains....

Guess what? When we reach Shi Zhuo, we were so hungry that we went to look for food and I forgot to take photo of the little town.... :(

Here's our lunch...

After lunch 小刘先生 (Son of 刘妈妈, the owner of the B&B we will be staying for the night.), came and pick us up. As it was still too early to check in, 小刘先生, brought us to 奋起湖For some sight seeing while he brought our luggage back to the B&B.

Our 1st sight seeing for the day. Although winter should be ending soon in late feb, but when you are up in the mountains, it's cold and day time seems shorter too. It was already 2+ in the afternoon, so we've only got a few hours more before making our way back to B&B to rest for the night.

Staircase leading down to the train station of 奋起湖.

This is what greeted us at the end of the staircase. Train tracks. That means photo shooting time....

Mr Wonderful in the first shoot. :)

奋起湖 train station

Antique looking train, and it's still in operation.

Mr Wonderful & Me....

The warehouse looking building on the right at the end of the track is like a train museum.

More photo shoots....

I saw a mirror so here's a selfie shot...

This is really an antique train that has already stop operating.
Cool right....

Now we are entering 奋起湖老街. 奋起湖 is famous for their 铁路便当. You can find a lot of shops selling them.

You must try this. It's a milk stick coated with maple syrup. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Very delicious....

They also have it in the shape of doughnut.

Must remember this shop....

Saw some shops selling fresh wasabi.... So cheap, only SGD $2-$4.

纯手工野生爱玉. Delicious....

There are lots of sign ages around telling you where the roads lead too. But be prepared for long walks.

Saw this restaurant down the street, out of 奋起湖老街. We were trying to find this place call 百年老老街, when we saw this restaurant.

Very 怀旧 environment....

Antique 便当文物 on display.

See the 公仔 on display behind the counter, very cute....

After almost an hour's walk, we finally saw the signage to 百年老老街...

But guest what that's not the only signage, there's more of them.....

Finally, we reach, but there isn't any people around.

It's a very short street about 50 meters, nothing much to see. There are only 2 shops opened here, but no customers.

More walking to be done before we get back to 奋起湖老街.

Do this look familiar to anyone?

This is the 木屋 in the movie 星空.

It's open to the public, the setting in the house is exactly the same as it is in the movie.
We spent another 30+ minutes from the house before we reach back to 奋起湖老街.

We decided to 打包铁路便当 back to the 民宿 for dinner....

If you got time, you can try to eat the 便当 at the shops there, cos, they will served it in metal containers. Taste more authentic that way....

Finally, we reach the 民宿.

View from the mountains.

The fog started coming as the day gets dark.

That's my mum in the room in the 民宿. We booked the family room, and it's really cheap, about SGD $130 a night. Soon, as we settle in, we wrer tired from all the walking, and we fell asleep soon after. I woke up at about 7pm in the evening, but the sky was so dark, I tot that I was like 10 or 11pm in the night. Mr Wonderful went to heat up our dinner, the 便当 we bought earlier for us.

Looks very delicious....

The pork chop and drumlets are very well marinated. Although we microwave it, but the meat is still super tender.

After dinner, dad and mum went back to the rooms to rest. Being on the mountains at night is really freezing. I got problem showering too.

Mr Wonderful and me chat with 刘爸爸 and 刘妈妈 after dinner. 刘妈妈 is very kind, and help us to enquire about the train tickets for 阿里山 forest rail. But as it was a public holiday in Taiwan on the 28th Feb, all train tickets were sold out. 刘妈妈 also said that it is difficult to catch the sunrise due to the cold, foggy weather. So we change our plans to just travel up to 阿里山 the next day for sight seeing.
There's nothing much to do when you are up on the mountains, luckily, there are wifi available. But as the wifi is only available in the common areas, it was too cold to stay there for long. After a while, Mr Wonderful and I went back to the room to rest for the night.

Do stay tune for my Day 2 adventures on 阿里山.

It's been a long time since Mr Wonderful and I have a date. Glad to spend some private time together for dinner without Baby Joy! It was a surprise dinner date (3 weeks ago) as he just SMS me the venue 5 minutes before I off work.  When I reach the restaurant, there was a big crowd outside, waiting for tables. Mr Wonderful got 2 seats at the Sushi Counter which is our favorite whenever we dine at a  Japanese Restaurant.   There's a welcome drink for everybody. Never got to know what drink is that as the servers are always busy. We had a hard time trying to get their attention as everyone is attending to tables. There were a lot of table services such as tossing salad and cooking Sukiyaki by the table side.   My welcome drink   Quite nice, a little minty. The chilli padi looks scary, but you don't taste that at all... Wagyu Toro Sushi $7.90 I am not a fan of raw beef, so I've got nothing much to saw about this. But the beef literally 'melts' in my mouth, so make

Bye, 2013... Hello, 2014.... & Mini Giveaway

After all the celebration and parties to celebrate Christmas, so 2013 is coming to an end. Looking back into 2013, I've got a fair share of the good and bad...  Now that 2014 is arriving, it's time to plan for the future.... Yes! I plan that in 2013, but things are not going smoothly for me then.  But I'm gonna do that again in 2014, and the first thing I'm gonna do is.... To be pregnant again... Yes, that's my number one plan for 2014. I'm not young anymore, and I really do look forward to have a child of my own. I lost my child in 2013, and I'm not gonna let that happen again this time. I'm gonna take good care of myself this time and give birth to a healthy baby. Secondly, Mr Wonderful and I had gave up choosing a bto unit this year. It is because they are left with only second storey units, while we prefer a higher storey one. Hopefully, this year, we are able to to book a unit. Next, I hope I can have more time
